No patrons should be given access to
the library facility outside of posted hours of operation. Program
leaders can be given access to the facility during the time allotments notated
on the paperwork associated with their particular activity (i.e. meeting room
reservation form or library program agenda). Program attendees can only
be given access to the facility if the person(s) booking the program is in
attendance and in the position of accepting responsibility for the attendees.
For safety reasons, the staff should
not open locked doors to converse with patrons outside the building.
Exceptions can be made for emergency situations where the
patron might be in danger (ex. extreme weather, physical injury, etc.)
When exceptions are made for these reasons, the incident must be immediately
documented via e-mail to your immediate supervisor and the Library
Director. The Library Director will in turn deem if the action was
appropriate and respond according to current library guidelines.
